learn+ + create + inspire

I am happy to host the Brighton Photography Group. Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with me, a professional photography instructor.
Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers! I run two hour photography sessions around the City of Brighton, based on a particular style, theme or technique. These events are rammed with top tips to help you improve your photography. There is plenty of opportunity for 121 tuition to clear up any recurring issues you may have with your camera or photography. You also get to spend time with other like minded photographers, a good opportunity to swap notes on the joys of photography.

New to Photography? I also run intensive 3 hour Beginner’s Guide to photography every 2 months. [ or more if demand required!] These workshops will get you started with photography and hopefully encourage you to join further workshops and develop your photography into a fore filling creative hobby or even a possible career change!

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. I am here to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? I recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking. Please follow the link below to see the schedule of events and select which you might like to join! This is agreat way to get to meet me and see if you would like to join one of my more comprehensive courses later on!

Advanced Composition Sunday 04 May Brighton Marina 10am - 2 Hours

Ideal for those that really want to understand the principles of composition rather than relying on contradictory “rules” like the rule of thirds and symmetry. We will learn how to make pictures according to pictorial elements such as line, shape and form. Free yourself from the tyranny of rules and compose images with a new understanding of picture making.

Abstract Photography Sunday 18 May Queens Rd, Brighton and Hove, Brighton - 10am - 2 Hours

This meet up will explore the world of abstract photography. We will focus, NOT on the subject of photographs but on how we can construct images using line, shape, form, light, contrast, texture and colour.
We will explore how different camera settings, such as shallow depth of field, can help with abstraction, compositions that lend themselves to abstraction as well as the potential of motion blur and focal lengths too.
This is a fun and creative meet up where you learn some vital skills that you will be able to apply to your everyday photography to take your images to the next level.

A Sense of Place Photography Meetup Sunday 29 June Madeira Dr, Brighton - 10am - 2 Hours

This 2-hour workshop will look at how to make images to give a sense of place, a portrait of a location! You will learn different technical and creative approaches to making a series of images that give an overall impression. From getting close up and personal while master shallow depth of field, to wide sweeping establishing shots of iconic landmarks. We will also be on the constant look out for those “only in Brighton” moments.
I learned a lot in those 2 hours. Toby is a great teacher 🙂 5/5.

The event exceeded my expectations. Tobias showed us to find motifs in an area that I would describe as boring and not worth to pay attention. Thank you 5/5

This was the first time I've attended a Brighton Photography Group event and thoroughly enjoyed it. Toby made me feel very welcome, he was engaging and knowledgable. He coped well with a group of mixed ability and everyone was extremely friendly. Great value for money. I'd definitely join another event with the Brighton Photography Group and recommend them to others. 5/5

The architecture photography event was very useful. Toby took time to find out what knowledge everyone on the event had and during the session spent time with each person individually to give appropriate help to each person. The route that we took from the station was excellent and gave many good opportunities for taking photographs in an area of Brighton that I had previously overlooked 5/5

This course was really informative for me having never done long exposure photography before. Toby took the time to set up my camera and explain what settings I needed to use for long exposure photography. He also let me play around with the settings to get the photo I wanted but was on hand if I needed any help. Toby was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I would recommend this course. 5/5.

As always i thought it was a great event, well presented and explained by Toby as usual. The guy is a very talented photographer who has a great way of explaining everything in a way that is easy to understand. I class myself as an intermediate photographer who has learnt so many tricks and techniques while being coached by Toby. I am already booked for the composition workshop in a few weeks! 5/5
