All the photo editing courses I offer take place 1 2 1 and online. By using digital meeting rooms I can share my screen to demonstrate the core techniques of photo editing in a range of software applications. What is more, you can also share your screen so I can guide you through the techniques, and prevent you getting “lost” in the process. My students find this way of learning invaluable, and can stop and ask questions anytime.
The final added bonus is we can work on your images and make the adjustments you want to!
Editing the Portrait. Online.
Photo Editing: The Portrait is a short course focusing on editing techniques specifically used in portrait photography.
This course is suitable for more confident software users, or anyone that has completed my Photo Editing the Basics, course. This course would also be ideal for any of my students that have attended one of my studio portraiture workshops. A terrific opportunity to really get the most out of your images!
Session 1
You will learn how to convert your RAW files to get the “most” out of them. Then we will look at which direction the edits could go, making creative decisions based on the strengths and weaknesses of the images. This is one great advantage of this sort of course, we are able to learn by editing YOUR images, making decisions reflecting on what you have shot! You will learn how to fine tune your colour and exposure and make local adjustments to make eyes “pop!”
Session 2
We will cover cropping and balancing your final compositions. We will also deep dive intp the pros and cons of skin editing, and the various ways of doing this, from using the blemish removal tools, heal stamps and finally discover the power of frequency separations.
Session 3
This final session will bring the techniques of the previous sessions together to make a final edit. Finalise the editing decisions made so far, and take the image through various filter adjustments to fully exhaust the creative process. Finally we will resize and prepare the image for printing by using the correct ICC profiles and colour corrections.

Photo Editing the Basics. Online.
All editing software can be a little daunting at first glance. This series of three 1 hour sessions will get you familiar with your chosen software.
Session 1
You will learn how to put in place safety nets, undo, reverse history stack, save as, insted of save, to make sure you can correct any mess you get into. It is very important that students feel that there is no “jeopardy” to editing, and that their images are secure and safe. This first session will get you started with the very basics, and encourage students to “play” with the software, confident they will not be getting into anything they cannot get out of.
Next we will look at file management, and image resizing.
Once you have grasped these concepts we can really explore the software without fear. Indeed it soon becomes fun!
Session 2
We will cover some of the basic tools such as cropping! We will also cover the basic adjustments that are most commonly used by photographers to enhance their images. You will learn to control exposure, colour correction and sharpen images.
Session 3
This will introduce you to masking and equip you with the tools to adjust portions of the image rather than all of the image. This process will give you ultimate control over how you approach your editing for either social media, the web or even print!
