All the photo editing courses I offer take place 1 2 1 and online. By using digital meeting rooms I can share my screen to demonstrate the core techniques of photo editing in a range of software applications. What is more, you can also share your screen so I can guide you through the techniques, and prevent you getting “lost” in the process. My students find this way of learning invaluable, and can stop and ask questions anytime.

Due to popular demand I am proposing a monthly ONLINE group editing class.
We will meet on the last weekend of the month for 3 hours online to learn the first principles of editing. For this group we will be using Affinity software.
From the power of layers and masks, to skin retouching, montaging, adding text to images, and preparing images for print. You will learn first by demonstration and then by screen sharing to demonstrate your own developing skills.
We will cover many of the techniques mentioned in my 1 2 1 courses. We will also have the flexibility to edit your photographs during each session. learning techniques specific to your own images.

Photo Editing: The Portrait is a short course focusing on editing techniques specifically used in portrait photography.
This course is suitable for more confident software users, or anyone that has completed my Photo Editing the Basics, course. This course would also be ideal for any of my students that have attended one of my studio portraiture workshops. A terrific opportunity to really get the most out of your images!
Session 1
This two hour session will take you through the process of editing one of your RAW images made during one of my workshops.
You will learn how to get the very best out of your image, make sure you have not developed any BAD editing habits and look at some alternative creative directions a single image can be taken too.
These techniques will be of great help when editing the rest of the images!

Editing the Portrait. Online.
Photo Editing: The Portrait is a short course focusing on editing techniques specifically used in portrait photography.
This course is suitable for more confident software users, or anyone that has completed my Photo Editing the Basics, course. This course would also be ideal for any of my students that have attended one of my studio portraiture workshops. A terrific opportunity to really get the most out of your images!
Session 1
You will learn how to convert your RAW files to get the “most” out of them. Then we will look at which direction the edits could go, making creative decisions based on the strengths and weaknesses of the images. This is one great advantage of this sort of course, we are able to learn by editing YOUR images, making decisions reflecting on what you have shot! You will learn how to fine tune your colour and exposure and make local adjustments to make eyes “pop!”
Session 2
We will cover cropping and balancing your final compositions. We will also deep dive intp the pros and cons of skin editing, and the various ways of doing this, from using the blemish removal tools, heal stamps and finally discover the power of frequency separations.
Session 3
This final session will bring the techniques of the previous sessions together to make a final edit. Finalise the editing decisions made so far, and take the image through various filter adjustments to fully exhaust the creative process. Finally we will resize and prepare the image for printing by using the correct ICC profiles and colour corrections.

Photo Editing the Basics. Online.
All editing software can be a little daunting at first glance. This series of three 1 hour sessions will get you familiar with your chosen software.
Session 1
You will learn how to put in place safety nets, undo, reverse history stack, save as, insted of save, to make sure you can correct any mess you get into. It is very important that students feel that there is no “jeopardy” to editing, and that their images are secure and safe. This first session will get you started with the very basics, and encourage students to “play” with the software, confident they will not be getting into anything they cannot get out of.
Next we will look at file management, and image resizing.
Once you have grasped these concepts we can really explore the software without fear. Indeed it soon becomes fun!
Session 2
We will cover some of the basic tools such as cropping! We will also cover the basic adjustments that are most commonly used by photographers to enhance their images. You will learn to control exposure, colour correction and sharpen images.
Session 3
This will introduce you to masking and equip you with the tools to adjust portions of the image rather than all of the image. This process will give you ultimate control over how you approach your editing for either social media, the web or even print!

Photo Editing for Creative effects
This is a three part short course exploring the creative potential of photo editing. Editing is about so much more than correcting mistakes in framing and exposure when the image was taken. From Ansel Adam’s techniques of monochrome printing to Man Ray’s experiments with solarisation, the history of photography is enriched by a wide range of creative effects used by photographers. This course, Photo Editing: Creative Effect, will introduce you to some of these techniques and how they can be mimicked with editing software.
Other techniques explored include, cloning and dopples, the addition of typography, creative boarders, and use of diptychs and triptychs to present your images. There is a vast variety of techniques we can engage with.
This course is suitable for more advanced students or for anyone that has attended any of my previous courses.
This course can be created with your specific needs. so if you have a project you are working on, or a series of work you want to take in a new direction, this course could be ideal for you.

The Glass Sphere Project
This is a specific project enabling you to “drop” a levitating glass sphere into any landscape! This creative project will teach you a range of techniques that you can apply to other images.
At the end of this three session project you will have learnt some new skills AND be able to turn almost any landscape image into an abstract work of art!
